Dictation for healthcare
Notes at the speed of speech. Patient details stay on your Mac.
Talk2me turns your voice into text on your Mac's own chip. Visit notes, referral letters and portal messages are typed for you, and no audio or text goes to a third-party server.
Free in beta, then $10 a year. No account, no card. Mac with Apple silicon.
Why cloud dictation means more paperwork
Under HIPAA, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says a cloud service that creates, receives, maintains or transmits electronic protected health information for a covered entity is a business associate, and needs a business associate agreement. Every cloud dictation tool is one more vendor to vet. Canadian provinces have health privacy laws with similar duties.
With a local voice model, Talk2me receives no patient information at all. The audio and the text stay on your Mac, inside the systems you already secure.
How Talk2me helps
On your Mac
With the default local voice model, your audio becomes text on your Mac. It never reaches us or anyone else.
Never trained on
We never receive your words, so no model can learn from them. Not with consent, not anonymized, not later.
No account
No sign-up and no user record. Nothing ties your dictation to you.
Strict privacy
One switch in Settings keeps every step on your Mac, including text cleanup. No cloud route is possible.
Your terms
Add drug names, procedures and colleagues to your personal dictionary, and they come out spelled right.
Anywhere in the building
Works offline, so a weak signal in an exam room does not stop you.
Good to know
- Talk2me is a general dictation tool, not a medical device and not an EHR. Read every note before you sign it.
- We do not sign business associate agreements, because we never receive the data. Ask your privacy or compliance officer before you use any new tool with patient information.
- Mac only today: Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 15 or later. Windows and Linux are next.
- If you choose a cloud voice engine instead of the default, your audio goes straight from your Mac to that provider, with your own API key, and its policy applies. Settings tags every route 100% private, Private · ZDR or Not private before you choose it.
Questions
Is Talk2me HIPAA compliant?
HIPAA applies to how covered entities and their vendors handle health information. With the default local voice model, Talk2me never receives patient information, so we are not in that data path. We do not sign business associate agreements. Check with your compliance officer before use.
Does it understand medical words?
Talk2me runs Whisper, a state-of-the-art speech model, on your Mac. For names and rare terms, add them to your personal dictionary. Always check the note before you sign it.
Does it work in my EHR?
Talk2me types into any app where you can type on your Mac, including web-based records in your browser.
